Green Meadows Petting Farm Review

4/10/08- The troops and I drove over to Green Meadows Petting Farm in Kissimmee today after several years of wanting to visit, but never seeming to find the time to get there.  I personally have always thought that it was waaayyyy out in the middle of nowhere, but it is just a few miles south of Irlo Bronson Hwy (192) in Kissimmee on Poinciana Blvd.  There is even a shortcut if you are going there from Brevard County (After driving through St. Cloud & Kissimmee take a left at the road just before Medieval Times, then take a left at the next light which is Poinciana Blvd., and then head south for 2.8 miles and you will see the sign on your right).  Parking was not a problem as the lot is very large and there is an area for bus or camper parking.  To see the farm you are taken on a two hour guided tour.  Our guide for today was Sue.  We had just over 20 people of various ages and from all over in our group.  Out first stop was the sheep pen and everyone had an opportunity to pet several sheep (I will not go into detail about every type of animal we saw).  We saw an American Bison, a pair of llamas, several cows (In one pen there was a baby that was born just four days ago walking around with its mother), water buffalo, and a bunch of geese.  At one stop everyone was able to hold a chick and a duckling.  We were also able to pick up adult chickens and ducks.  In the chicken pen there was a large chicken coop where everyone had the chance to see some chickens sitting on eggs.  About halfway through the tour we went on a hayride that went through the property.  All of the small children were also able to go for a short pony ride mostly led by their own parents.  Soon it was time to board the Green Meadows Express for a train ride around the property.  After the train ride and a couple of stops to see some more animals it was time for the kids to milk a cow.  Everyone had a chance (My two usually adventurous kids decided that this would be a good time not to participate, but they promise they will next time) to step up and be instructed on the proper procedure in milking a cow.  By now the kids were itching to climb all over the two playgrounds at the farm and climb on the many old (But in great condition) tractors placed throughout the area.  The tour was wrapping up anyway and I let them go crazy for a few minutes before it was time to pack up and head for home.  There is a large picnic area near the office and food as well as drinks are available for purchase or you can bring your own.  I know for a fact that everyone in our group had an excellent time and look for a little review from my son (Ethan) as soon as he can sit down and type it up.  Green Meadows is more than worth the price of admission and worth the drive.  Now I was told that this is their slow time of year and the fall is when it gets extremely busy.  I could see that this would be a great place to bring the family for some Halloween fun and we will be coming back in October to visit the pumpkin patch!  Thank you to everyone at Green Meadows for a great day.

Now for a new section that will be showing up on most reviews.  "Ethan Says" will give you a kids perspective of each review fresh from the mind of our eight year old son.

Ethan Says

The train was very fun.  If you go at Halloween there are Halloween decorations.  I got to hold a duck and a chick.  I got to see a chicken sitting on eggs.  There were some big turkeys and they looked YUMMY!  That's it for now.  I will write more for the next trip.
